The National Bank of Belgium (BNB) is looking for a financial analyst (F/M/X) for its “Prudential supervision of insurance and reinsurance companies” department.

This service is responsible for the supervision of Belgian insurance and reinsurance companies with the ultimate objective of protecting the interests of policyholders and guaranteeing the continuity of the companies. It ensures that these companies, whether small niche players or large insurers well established on the international scene, manage their risks in a healthy and prudent manner and comply with all regulatory provisions.

The financial analyst carries out his mission within a multidisciplinary team, which brings together the legal, financial, actuarial and IT aspects in order to assess the risks of the companies subject to control.


As a financial analyst, your missions are varied. You ensure compliance with prudential regulations and you contribute to the overall risk assessment of insurance and reinsurance companies by:

  • analyzing qualitative and quantitative reports regarding the financial situation 
  • assessing the financial solidity of companies (investments, profitability, solvency, asset valuation, etc.) 
  • assessing their risk profile and their compliance with regulatory requirements (capital requirement, own funds, etc.).

As part of the execution of your missions, various contacts help you to clearly understand the strategy of the companies subject to control and the risks to which they are exposed. You therefore have numerous contacts at the highest level in the companies supervised (the board of directors, the management committee and those responsible for the independent control functions), contacts with approved auditors and various international contacts for companies active in internationally.

As part of this role, you are required, as a financial analyst, to constantly follow current events in your area of ​​expertise. Both international and national training courses come into play in this regard.


  • you hold a master’s or doctorate in (applied) economics or commercial engineering and have good knowledge of quantitative risk management 
  • professional experience in insurance regulations (Solvency II), financial products and/or accounting techniques is an asset
  • you have analytical skills and a spirit of synthesis 
  • you have good communication skills, both written and oral 
  • you have a good working knowledge of Dutch and English
  • you attach great importance to ethical rules and confidentiality.
