June 10-11, 2026

Lima, Peru

Deadline: April 3, 2026

The global race for critical minerals is reshaping international trade, finance, geopolitics, and the clean energy transition. To advance research at the intersection of these issues, we are pleased to announce a Call for Papers for the conference “International and Financial Dimensions of Critical Minerals,” to be held June 10–11, 2026, in Lima, Peru.

Organized by Laura Alfaro Maykall (Inter-American Development Bank), Rabah Arezki (CNRS & FERDI), Osmel Manzano (IDB), and Rick van der Ploeg (University of Oxford), in collaboration with the CEBRA International Finance and Macroeconomics Program (IFM), the conference invites detailed proposals and preferably draft research papers. Submissions are due April 3, 2026, with notifications sent by April 19, 2026.

The conference will focus on the international and financial dynamics of critical minerals—such as lithium, copper, cobalt, rare earth elements, and uranium—that underpin the energy and digital transitions. Topics of interest include global supply chains, market concentration and cartelization, geopolitical risks, industrial policies, environmental consequences, and the distribution of gains between advanced and developing economies.

Selected papers will be considered for a special issue of the Journal of International Money and Finance, edited by Galina Hale (JIMF) with the conference organizers serving as Guest Editors.

Detailed proposals and, preferably, draft research papers are invited. Submissions should be sent electronically to Rabah Arezki (rabah.arezki@uca.fr) and/or Rick van der Ploeg (rick.vanderploeg@economics.ox.ac.uk) no later than April 3, 2026. Final paper selections will be made by the conference organizers, and authors will be notified of decisions by April 19, 2026.
